William A.J. (Bill) Murphy QC.
Bill Murphy was born and raised in Smiths Falls. After graduating from High School, Bill attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, and obtained a degree in Arts in 1963, and Law in 1966. He subsequently articled in Toronto, and completed his degree at Osgoode Hall.
After graduation, Bill joined the firm of Dulmage, Boyd and Kirkland in 1968, and became a full partner in 1970. He was appointed a Queen's counsel in 1980. He has continued his general practice in the Town of Smiths Falls for 42 years.
Bill is the father of Darragh and Erin, and has four grandchildren.
Bill has been very active in community affairs, and is a past director and President of the Smiths Falls Golf & Country Club, a previous Vice-Treasurer of the Smiths Falls Public Hospital Board, and the subsequent Amalgamated Board for the Community Hospital of Smiths Falls, a past director of the Smiths Falls Junior A Hockey Club, a past director of the Land O'Lakes Shrine Club, a founding director of the Smiths Falls Squash Club, past Vice-President of the Smiths Falls Planning Board, and past President of the Lanark County Bar Association, and a past director of the Canadian Bar Association.
Bill is also past President of the Smiths Falls Progressive Conservative Association, past Secretary of the Lanark County Provincial Progressive Conservative Association, and past President of the Progressive Conservative Association of the Federal Riding of Lanark-Renfrew-Carleton.
